The Mentoring Works programme matches Year 10 students to business mentors working within the MUFG Financial Group. Students travel independently to the mentors place of work after school each fortnight at an agreed time.

Mentoring sessions consist of support on raising aspirations, employability skills and advice on future pathways whilst also introducing students to the world of work. Students have also benefited from work experience placements at MUFG offices in Central London and financial literacy workshops on savings and budgeting. Students are encouraged to set goals and targets with their mentors in order to increase confidence, drive, motivation, communication and resilience.

At the end of the academic year students are invited to a celebration ceremony. Over the past 7 years approximately 150 Beacon High students have benefited from this fantastic opportunity with many more to benefit in the future.

Here are some great examples of the feedback we have received from students and mentors on the programme:

"I enjoy travelling in to the city for the sessions it makes me feel mature and independent plus the MUFG building is amazing my mentoring sessions take place on the 22nd floor."

"The sessions have really helped increase my confidence and raise my aspirations. I can see myself in the future working within the financial industry."

My mentor has really helped me with my self-esteem; I now have the confidence to ask questions in class.

"The students are engaged and a real pleasure to mentor; we have agreed a plan for the year and I am looking forward to our future sessions."

"I am impressed with the commitment of the students and the effort they make in travelling to Central London after school for the sessions."
