Becoming a Parent Governor

Parent Governor Vacancy

The Islington Futures Federation Governing Body has a vacancy for a secondary school parent governor. Islington Futures consists of two secondary schools, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School (EGA), Beacon High (BH) and two primary schools Copenhagen Primary School & Vittoria Primary School all in the London Borough of Islington.

Parent governors play an important role as members of the governing body. They are required to ensure that parent perspectives are taken into account in governance of the schools, but not to represent all parents or students at the schools.

The term of office as determined by the governing body is 4 years.

For more details about the role of a governor please click this link. Induction and continuous training is available for all governors via our Islington Council Governor Support Services. All governors are expected to follow the Governor Code of Conduct.

This is an exciting time to join the governing body of Islington Futures, which is just completing its first year as a Federation. The Federation consists of existing governors from before the formation of the Federation and new governors who offer a fresh perspective. We are all learning together and the Federation aims to benefit from a rich body of governors with varied skills expertise.

If you wish to stand as a candidate for this interesting and challenging position, please complete and return the nomination form in a sealed envelope to the EGA or Beacon High admin office (marked “Parent Governor Nomination Form”) to arrive no later than 3pm on Friday 12th July 2019.

This should include:

1. A completed Nomination Form;

2. A short statement about yourself (including reasons why you wish to become a school governor and how you can contribute to the work of the governing body).

If there is more than one candidate, an election will be held. We will notify all parents/guardians/carers about the election date and time, send out details of the candidates and will tell you, how you can vote by post if you cannot attend the election.
